David Schmidtz Biography
David Schmidtz is Kendrick Professor of Philosophy, Eller Chair of Service-Dominant Logic, at the University of Arizona. He is founding Director of the Center for Philosophy of Freedom, founder of the Department of Political Economy & Moral Science, and editor in chief of Social Philosophy & Policy, which by circulation numbers is the largest philosophy journal in the English-speaking world. In 2019, his book Debating Education (co-authored with Harry Brighouse) was published by Oxford, while his textbook Commercial Society: A Primer on Ethics & Economics (co-authored with Cathleen Johnson and Robert Lusch) was published by Rowman & Littlefield. Dave’s seventeen doctoral students all went on to faculty positions. They published articles in Journal of Philosophy, Philosophical Review, and Ethics. Oxford, Cambridge, Blackwell, and Princeton published their books.
