Dell Curry

One of the most respected National Basketball Association (NBA) veterans and the patriarch of a famously athletic family, Dell Curry embodies the ideal role model with his athletic accomplishments and high character. After a successful college basketball career at Virginia Tech and a sixteen year long stint in the NBA, Curry continues to use sports as a means for giving back to his community. He is the father of NBA players Stephen Curry and Seth Curry.

The first person in Virginia Tech basketball history to have their jersey number retired, Curry was named the 1986 Metro Conference Player of the Year and was a three time All-Metro Conference selection. Curry’s athletic success carried into his professional career with the Charlotte Hornets, where he still holds the franchise scoring record of 9,839 points. The 1994 NBA 6th Man of the Year, Curry retired from playing professional basketball in 2002 and has since worked in the team’s front office and serves as a commentator and analyst for the Charlotte Hornets.

Curry’s accomplishments with the Hornets were only the beginning of his impact on the Charlotte community. In 1998, he started the Dell Curry Foundation to provide living arrangements and life skill development to youth and young adults in need of guidance. Teaming up with Jay Bilas, Curry formed Athletes United for Youth to provide at-risk youth in Charlotte with resources to become productive citizens. Through all of his efforts, Curry has launched five learning centers in Charlotte that provide mentoring, counseling, educational training, and help to those in need of self-improvement.

The legacy Curry has established is continuously expanding through his children: Stephen, the star point guard for the Golden State Warriors and NBA MVP; Seth, who was an accomplished basketball player at Duke University and plays for the Hornets; and Sydel, Curry's youngest child and only daughter, who played volleyball at Elon University.
