Doug Baldwin, Jr. is a former football wide receiver who enjoyed a successful eight-year career with the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL) between 2011 and 2019. Notably, Baldwin was a key player in the Seahawks' Super Bowl XLVIII Championship in 2014. He initially joined the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2011 after a productive college football stint at Stanford University, where he led the team in receiving yards and touchdowns.
In his time with the Seahawks, Baldwin solidified his reputation as a dependable receiver. He became the third all-time leader in team receptions and receiving yards and led the team in receiving yards and receptions in his rookie season. In a span of four games in 2015, Baldwin joined the ranks of Hall of Famer Jerry Rice as the only player in league history with at least 10 receiving touchdowns. This incredible performance contributed to his setting a team record for touchdown receptions in a single season, with 14 in the 2015 season.
Baldwin's consistent performance resulted in his selection to the Pro Bowl in 2016 and 2017. In 2016, he signed a four-year contract extension with the Seahawks worth $46 million, placing him amongst the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL. However, his career was not without its challenges. An elbow injury early in the 2018 season limited his performance, but he demonstrated resilience, finishing the season with 37 receptions, 388 receiving yards, and two touchdowns.
Following his retirement from the NFL in May 2019, Baldwin remained active in various capacities. He is currently the CEO and managing director of Vault89, a venture capital firm based in Renton, Washington. He serves as a board member for the Players Coalition, an NFL player-led organization advocating for criminal justice and education reform. Baldwin also joined the board of Valor Worldwide, a Seattle digital media startup, and contributes to philanthropic efforts in the Pacific Northwest. In recognition of his contributions, he received the Paul G. Allen Humanitarian Award at the Seattle Sports Commission's 88th Annual Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards in February 2023.
