Doug Flutie

Douglas Richard Flutie is a former professional quarterback who played football for 21 seasons. Originating from Natick, Massachusetts, he began his collegiate career at Boston College, where he gained nationwide recognition for his triumphant Hail Mary Pass in 1984 and for securing the Heisman Trophy. Flutie's achievements at Boston College also include winning the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards, earning Player of the Year awards from multiple organizations, and becoming the NCAA's all-time passing yardage leader with 10,579 yards. He began his professional journey with the New Jersey Generals in the USFL before transitioning to the NFL.

Flutie played for both the Chicago Bears and New England Patriots in the NFL. His most notable achievement during this stint was leading the Patriots to a comeback victory over the Indianapolis Colts in 1988. After his time in the NFL, Flutie transitioned to the Canadian Football League (CFL) where he had an impressive tenure. As a member of the BC Lions, Calgary Stampeders, and Toronto Argonauts, Flutie won three Grey Cups, was named Grey Cup MVP thrice, and received the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award six times. He also set several CFL records, including the most passing yards (41,355) and touchdowns (270) in just eight seasons. In 1998, Flutie made a triumphant return to the NFL with the Buffalo Bills, earning a Pro Bowl selection and the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award after leading the Bills to the playoffs.

Flutie's contributions to football were recognized with his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007, the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2008, and Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 2007, where he was the first non-Canadian inductee. In addition to his athletic prowess, Flutie has made significant strides off the field. He has raised over $14 million for his foundation, which offers support to individuals and families affected by autism. Flutie now resides in Melbourne Beach, FL, where he enjoys surfing and golfing in his leisure time.
