Doug Lindsay

Doug Lindsay was 21 when he became severely ill, leading to an 11-year period where he was largely confined to his home and bed. He eventually diagnosed himself with a rare autonomic-adrenal disorder, developed novel treatments to manage his condition, and innovated a unique surgery that ultimately resolved his health issues. This period of personal and medical challenge lasted 14 years, during which he collaborated with 35 senior faculty members across 28 institutions, devised new applications for five existing prescription drugs, and successfully pursued a landmark court case safeguarding patient rights. Additionally, he invented a surgery for "Lindsay Syndrome," significantly impacting his life and health.

Following his recovery, Lindsay completed his biology degree at Rockhurst University. He then emerged as a prominent speaker on hope and resilience's pivotal roles in facing life's challenges and fostering innovation. His speaking engagements have included prestigious platforms such as TEDx events, Stanford Medicine X, Dell Medical School at UT-Austin, and the Society for Participatory Medicine. Moreover, he has presented at notable venues and conferences including medical schools at Harvard and Stanford, and at the 2nd Annual HealthSTLX and the AHIMA19 Health Data and Information Conference. His powerful narratives have earned him top accolades, such as being the subject of CNN Health’s top story of 2019.

In addition to his speaking career, Lindsay serves on the Community Advisory Board for Washington University’s Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences and Institute for Public Health. He also offers specialized consultation as a Personal Medical Consultant, assisting a select group of patients with rare diseases or complex conditions, guiding them through the intricacies of the medical system. His efforts not only underscore the importance of patient-led research but also emphasize collaborative healthcare partnerships to enhance treatment and patient care outcomes.
