Dr. Dieter Zetsche Biography
Dr. Dieter Zetsche has been a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG since December 16, 1998, and became Chairman of the Board of Management on January 1, 2006. He also serves as the Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Division, overseeing prestigious brands such as Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Smart, Mercedes-Benz AMG, and Mercedes-Benz McLaren.
Born on May 5, 1953, in Istanbul, Turkey, he moved to Frankfurt where he completed his schooling, including the Abitur (university entrance examination). He pursued electrical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe from 1971 to 1976 and subsequently joined the research department of the then Daimler-Benz AG. In 1981, he was appointed assistant to the Development Manager in the Commercial Vehicles business unit.
After completing his doctorate in engineering at the University of Paderborn in 1982, he took on a significant role within the Daimler-Benz Commercial Vehicles Management Development Team from 1984, focusing on the coordination of international development activities. This role marked a key phase in his career, setting the foundation for his later executive responsibilities at Daimler AG.
