Dr. James B. Maas

Dr. James B. Maas is the Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow, Professor and past chairman of the Department of Psychology at Cornell University. He received his B.A. from Williams College and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell. Over his distinguished 48-year tenure at Cornell, he has taught introductory psychology to more than 65,000 students in what is recognized as the nation's largest single lecture class, and conducts research on the relationship between sleep and performance.

Dr. Maas, a leading authority on sleep and performance, is a much sought-after keynote presenter for major organizations worldwide, including IBM, Google, and professional sports teams such as the NFL's New York Jets. His presentations, such as "Peak Performance for the Rest of Your Life," focus on the crucial role of sleep in maintaining alertness, mood, productivity, and overall quality of life, consistently receiving standing ovations and the highest accolades.

Dr. Maas is also an accomplished filmmaker and author. He has produced nine national television specials for major networks including PBS, BBC, and CBC, and his films have won 44 major film festivals. He is the author of several books including the New York Times business best-seller "Power Sleep," and "Sleep for Success!" co-authored with Rebecca Robbins. His children’s book "Remmy and the Brain Train" is an award-winning bedtime story designed to improve daytime alertness and mood. Dr. Maas frequently appears on national television programs such as NBC's TODAY Show, Good Morning America, and Oprah, discussing the critical importance of sleep.
