Dr. Jeannelle Perkins-Muhammad

Dr. Jeannelle Perkins-Muhammad is a licensed family therapist, acclaimed author, speaker, and psychotherapist with over two decades of experience in nurturing the mental and emotional wellness of the Black community. She is a South Carolina state licensure supervisor, a Practicum Supervisor at Liberty and Capella Universities, an adjunct Professor at the Citadel in Charleston, S.C., on the Board of Directors for Charleston Hope, a Foundation Fellow of Roper St. Francis Healthcare and a consultant on TV One’s hit show Fatal Attraction.

As an author, her works delve into the heart of Black relationships, exploring their beauty, challenges, resilience, and the influence of cultural history on them. Her book, Into-Me-See, explores the cultural and personal factors that can make it challenging for Black couples to develop and maintain intimacy and how the history of slavery and ongoing racism in America have affected Black relationships.

As a speaker, Dr. Jeannelle relates to audiences with insights into relationship dynamics, mental health, and the intersectionality experienced by individuals in the Black community. She has been featured in Newsweek, Vice Magazine, Skirt Magazine, Divorce.com and Charleston Magazine, and can be seen on the AFRO News’ “Chicken Boxx,” Fox 24 Charleston, WCIV ABC News 4 Lowcountry Live.

Dr. Jeannelle’s approach towards therapy involves a deep understanding of the cultural, historical, and socio-economic factors that intersect with mental health. Dr. Jeannelle weaves this understanding into every therapy session, workshop, and speaking engagement, presenting healing and discourse that is relatable, authentic, and transformative.
