Dr. Tom Mensah

Dr.Thomas Mensah is one of the Most Brilliant Minds of this Century, described by Ebony Magazine as a Genius of our time. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors. His innovations led to the Explosive growth of Modern Day High Speed Internet. His Inventions at Corning Glass Works, reduced the cost of Fiber Optics transmission Media to the same level as Copper Cables, leading to the replacement of Copper Cables with Fiber Optics throughout the World. Both undersea Submarine Fiber Optic Cables and Terrestrial Cables depend on his innovation.

His Innovations helped create Google, Facebook, Amazon inc, all companies that rely on the Broadband High Speed Internet that rely on Fiber Optics transmission, which has enabled over a Billion People to connect to the Internet. Modern Airplanes also use fiber optics to dramatically reduce their weight saving fuel leading to sustainable and efficient air transportation and high profitability.

Without his innovations no one can send Youtube videos, Instagram Photos, Selfies etc to another persons Cell phones, tablets, laptops and PCs etc. As a Trailblazer he worked at both Corning Inc, where Fiber Optics was Invented, and AT&T Bell Laboratories, where lasers and the transistor were invented.. His work on the Fiber Optic Guided Missile FOG-M at AT&T Bell labs, laid the foundation for the current Smart and Intelligent Missiles in the arsenal of the US Department of Defense. He holds three Patents on the FOG-M, Smart Missile Technology, and a total of 7 patents awarded over a six year time frame.

His current work is on Nanotechnology and he serves as the Editor in Chief of the Frontiers of Nanotechnology Series, being published by Wiley Inc. He is a Fellow of AIChE, Associate Fellow of AIAA,American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, (One of three African Americans among 167 Inventors). He received the Percy Julian Award, Mark Dean Lifetime Achievement Award, AIChE 100 Award ( One of three African Americans among the AIChE 100 Technology Leaders Nationally recognized during the one hundred Anniversary of AIChE. He has received many National Awards for his Innovations. Dr. Mensah served on the MIT Visiting Committee from 1988 to 1992.
