Dream Hampton

Dream Hampton (stylized as dream hampton) is an accomplished filmmaker, producer, writer, and Visiting Artist with Stanford University's Institute for Diversity in the Arts. Her influential work spans over two decades, with pieces that have appeared in prominent publications such as the New York Times, The Village Voice, Vibe, and The Washington Post.

Hampton's body of work in literature and film is extensive and impactful. Notably, she collaborated with Shawn Jay-Z Carter to author the bestselling "Decoded" and directed the significant documentary "Treasure." She has been heavily involved in TV documentaries that have the power to change culture, including executive producing the Emmy nominated "Surviving R. Kelly," which broke ratings records and received a Peabody Award and MTV Movie Award.

Her most recent works include the award-winning short film "Freshwater," the compelling "Finding Justice," and "It's A Hard Truth Ain't It." In addition to her film work, Hampton has been a speaker at the BlackStar Film Festival and has been involved in the Sundance Institute Archives.

Hampton's involvement in advocacy and recognition in the field is equally substantial. She served on the board of the advocacy group Color of Change and has been recognized as a Kresge Artist Fellow. In 2019, hampton was named one of TIME 100's most influential people in the world and was included in Variety's 2019 Power of Women New York Impact List. She has also received the Ms. Foundation Gloria Award and a Rockefeller Foundation's Bellagio Center Residency in 2023.
