Dropkick Murphys

The Dropkick Murphys, an American Celtic punk band, was formed in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1996. The band currently includes members Ken Casey, Matt Kelly, Al Barr, James Lynch, Tim Brennan, and Jeff DaRosa. They initially gained recognition after signing with independent punk record label Hellcat Records, and their 2004 single, "Tessie," became their first mainstream hit. The band's final Hellcat release, 2005's "The Warrior's Code," included the song "I'm Shipping Up to Boston," which was featured in the film "The Departed." In 2007, they started releasing music through their own imprint label, Born & Bred. Their most recent albums, "This Machine Still Kills Fascists" and "Okemah Rising," were released in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

The Dropkick Murphys are known for their unique style, heavily influenced by bands like the Ramones, the Clash, and Sex Pistols, as well as Irish bands such as Stiff Little Fingers and the Dubliners. Their music often addresses social issues, such as the silent drug epidemic, and they have a strong relationship with the AFL-CIO, supporting working class and union causes. Their commitment to these causes is reflected in their song "Take 'Em Down," released in 2011 to support Wisconsin workers' rights, and their 2008 promotional music video for their song "Tomorrow's Industry," which supported United Healthcare Workers East and hospitals of Massachusetts. They also have a history of political activism, showing their support for the Democratic party and opposing the political views of certain Republican figures.

Aside from their music, the Dropkick Murphys are also known for their charitable activities. In 2009, band member Ken Casey founded the charity organization, the Claddagh Fund, which supports community-based non-profits with a focus on children and veterans organizations, and programs that support alcohol and drug rehabilitation. The band has also performed at various benefit concerts and has released charity singles, such as their two-song CD single for the family of Andrew K. Farrar, Jr., a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps who was killed in Iraq. These initiatives highlight the band's commitment to giving back to the community and using their platform to make a difference.
