E. J. Dionne

Eugene Joseph (E.J.) Dionne, Jr. is a recognized journalist, political commentator, and professor, well-known for his insightful analysis that resonates across the political spectrum. He began his twice-weekly op-ed column for The Washington Post in 1993, which now reaches audiences in more than 250 newspapers worldwide. Dionne was named among the 25 most influential journalists in Washington by National Journal.

Dionne's extensive career in journalism includes a 14-year tenure with The New York Times, where he reported on a variety of significant topics from several major cities including Paris, Rome, and Beirut. He is also a Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution and a professor at Georgetown University. Additionally, Dionne appears regularly as a political analyst on prominent platforms such as MSNBC, NPR’s All Things Considered, ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” and NBC's "Meet the Press."

A prolific author, Dionne has written several influential books. His work "Why Americans Hate Politics" won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and was a National Book Award nominee. His other notable publications include "Our Divided Political Heart: The Battle for the American Idea in an Age of Discontent," "Code Red: How Progressives and Moderates Can Unite to Save Our Country," and "One Nation After Trump: A Guide for the Perplexed, the Disillusioned, the Desperate and the Not-Yet Deported." In 2017 and 2018, he served as the William F. Bloomberg Visiting Professor at Harvard University, with a joint appointment at the Harvard Divinity School, the Harvard Kennedy School, and Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences. His latest collaborative work includes "We Are the Change We Seek," a collection of President Barack Obama’s speeches, co-edited with Joy-Ann Reid.
