Earl Newsome

As Chief Information Officer (CIO) of Cummins, Inc., a $30 billion global power leader that designs, manufactures, sells, and serves diesel and alternative fuel engines, Earl Newsome provides strategic leadership, drives key IT projects, and executes on overall business strategies. At Cummins, he has led a rejuvenation of the IT strategy with a program called renovate/renovate+ -- leading the organization on a program to improve agility, resiliency and capability on top of a world-class foundation resulting in millions of dollars of savings, improvements in outcome delivery and customer satisfaction. A multifaceted technology executive, Newsome’s 25+ years of global IT leadership experience drives business efficiencies through digital transformation.

Prior to joining Cummins, Newsome served as CIO of the Americas IT organization for Linde, PLC, a $28 billion global industrial gases and engineering firm formed by the merger of Linde AG and Praxair, where he served as CIO. He also led senior leadership positions at technology company TE Connectivity, Estée Lauder, Bowne & Co. and Owens-Illinois. Earlier in his career, he was a partner at Deloitte & Touche and at BDO Seidman, and held management roles at Grant Thornton, Andersen Consulting and J.I. Case.

Newsome served as a Captain in the U.S. Army and earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Beacon, Navisite, First Independence Corporation, and First Independent Bank, Detroit. He also serves on the West Point Association of Graduates’ Board of Directors and the Board of Visitors for Sacred Heart University’s Jack Welch College of Business and Technology.

His speaking credits include CIO Forum, Gartner Symposium, Harvard Business School, and numerous webinars. Newsome is also a regular contributor for IT and business publications. In 2019, he was the recipient of the New York CIO of the Year ORBIE Award l Super Global from the New York CIO Leadership Association. Black Enterprise and Savoy magazines have also recognized him as among the world’s most influential and transformative business leaders.
