Ed Reed, a Super Bowl champion and a former NFL player, was selected by the Baltimore Ravens out of the University of Miami (Fla.) in the first round, 24th overall, of the 2002 NFL Draft. Over the next 12 seasons, Reed demonstrated consistent skill and became one of the most accomplished safeties in the league.
Reed started all 16 games during his rookie season and rapidly became an essential part of the Ravens’ formidable defense. He logged 85 tackles (71 solo), five interceptions, 12 passes defensed, one sack, and one fumble recovery. Leading Baltimore in interceptions as a rookie and seven of his eleven seasons with the club, Reed was integral to the team's success.
From 2006-2012, Reed's leadership on the field was crucial to the Ravens securing four AFC North Division titles, three AFC championship game appearances, and one Super Bowl championship. In 2012, the Ravens defeated the New England Patriots 28-13 in the AFC championship, and Reed showcased his prowess in Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers with five tackles, one interception, and one pass defensed in a 34-31 victory.
After his time with the Ravens, Reed signed with the Houston Texans before moving to the New York Jets to finish the 2013 season. He still holds several NFL records, including the most career interception return yardage (1,590) and the two longest interception returns (107 and 106 yards).
In addition to his on-field accomplishments, Reed received the Ravens Ed Block Courage Award in 2008. His career totals include 643 tackles (531 solo), 64 interceptions returned for 1,590 yards and 7 touchdowns, 6 sacks, and 13 fumble recoveries.
Reed, a nine-time Pro Bowler and six-time All-Pro, was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 and was also named to the NFL All-Decade Team of the 2000s. After retiring from professional play, he served as an assistant defensive backs coach for the Buffalo Bills in 2016 and in 2020, was hired by the University of Miami as the football team's chief of staff.
Now focusing on public speaking, Reed delivers keynotes on leadership, teamwork, and overcoming challenges. He uses his extensive NFL experience to inspire and teach strategies for success across various industries. His speaking topics include Collaboration, Competitiveness, Football, Inspiration, Leadership, Motivation, NFL, Overcoming Obstacles, Teamwork, Winning Spirit, and Workplace Culture. Reed designs his presentations to provide audiences with actionable takeaways, a renewed perspective on leadership, and a champion’s mindset, emphasizing the application of football-inspired strategies to business and organizational success.
