Elizabeth Rutledge

With over 30 years of service at American Express, Elizabeth Rutledge currently holds the position of Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing the brand’s global media, communications, sponsorships, experiences, and customer insights. She is a member of the company’s Executive Committee and is dedicated to bringing American Express's “Powerful Backing” to customers, colleagues, and partners through innovative content and initiatives.

In her previous roles at American Express, Rutledge was Executive Vice President of U.S. Card Products and Benefits, responsible for American Express’ Consumer Charge and Lending portfolios, Co-Brand products, and Membership Rewards. She was also Executive Vice President of Global Network Marketing and Information, focusing on delivering powerful marketing and insights to American Express merchants globally.

Rutledge maintains a firm belief in creating an inclusive and collaborative environment within American Express and the marketing community. She is on the Board of Directors for the Association of National Advertisers, the Ad Council, and the YMCA of Greater New York. Additionally, she is a member of the Adweek Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council. Her dedication and hard work in the field have earned her recognition as an Adweek 2018 Brand Genius Award winner, and she was named to AdAge’s “Women to Watch” Class of 2019, The Holmes Report “Influence 100” 2019 list, and Brand Innovators “Top 100 Women in Brand Marketing.” Rutledge was also named in Forbes' 2023 World's Most Influential CMOs list.

She and her husband reside in Old Greenwich, CT, and have a daughter. Rutledge graduated from Princeton University and holds an MBA from New York University.
