Emily Chiu

Emily Chiu's diverse professional experience spans multiple stages of company development, including start-ups, growth, and turnarounds. Her work extends across a variety of business models and industries, such as FinTech, EdTech, commerce, and emerging technologies. Chiu's roles have varied as well, from operational to advisory and board positions. Part of her board experience includes serving as an Independent Director on both public and private company boards and the Board of Trustees of an academic institution. Her board expertise lies in technology and product innovation, digital strategy, business model acceleration and transformation, and financial expertise.

In her operational career, Chiu has demonstrated a strong track record of building innovative businesses and products from the ground up. At Block, formerly known as Square, she holds the position of COO and co-founder of their third organic business, TBD, an open-source developer platform for decentralized finance and identity. Before her time at Block, Chiu was a key member of the founding team of an edtech startup, where she served as the head of operations. The startup, which raised over $40 million in venture capital, grew from just three employees to over 150 before being acquired. Chiu's contributions included launching accredited universities and online learning platforms, recognized as "Breakthrough Models" by EDUCAUSE and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Chiu's career began in the world of private equity and investment banking at Goldman Sachs, where she focused on Tech and Healthcare. She worked on M&A deals, assisting Fortune 1000 companies in raising billions in debt and equity financing. She then transitioned to advising venture-backed companies at an earlier stage, guiding over 70 founding teams on growth, business development strategy, and fundraising. Chiu has proven to be a specialist in leading cross-functional teams, launching innovative products and businesses, particularly in regulated industries, and implementing 0-1 business innovation and scaling strategies.
