Eric Bieniemy Biography

Eric Bieniemy Jr. is a football coach and former player. He played college football for the Colorado Buffaloes and was named a unanimous All-American in 1990, finishing third in Heisman Trophy voting. He was selected by the San Diego Chargers in the second round, 39th overall, of the 1991 NFL Draft. He also played for the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles.

Upon concluding his playing career, Bieniemy transitioned to coaching and served as the running backs coach for the Colorado Buffaloes, where he was later inducted into the CU Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. He also served as the offensive coordinator at Colorado before assuming the role of running backs coach for the Kansas City Chiefs. As an NFL running backs coach, he coached Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles, facilitating their journey to a combined seven Pro Bowls in eight seasons.

Subsequently, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, who previously coached Bieniemy during his tenure at the Philadelphia Eagles, hired Bieniemy as the running backs coach and promoted him to the role of offensive coordinator in January 2018 to succeed Matt Nagy. Under Bieniemy's leadership, the Chiefs were first in the NFL in yards per game, and points scored in his first season as offensive coordinator. The team scored the third-most points in a season in NFL history with 565. Furthermore, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes became the second quarterback in NFL history, alongside Peyton Manning, to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in a season.

Demonstrating his coaching prowess, Bieniemy helped lead the Chiefs to win their first Super Bowl in Super Bowl LIV and followed it up with another victory in Super Bowl LVII, making him a two-time Super Bowl champion. After his successful run with the Chiefs, Bieniemy was hired as the offensive coordinator and assistant head coach for the Washington Commanders in 2023, where he served for a year. Following his tenure with the Washington Commanders, Bieniemy was appointed as the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at UCLA in February 2024, where he handled full playcalling duties. After a single season with UCLA, in December 2024, Bieniemy moved on to join the Chicago Bears as the running backs coach.
