As an investigative journalist, Eric Schlosser explores subjects ignored by the mainstream media and gives a voice to people on the margins of society. Over the years, he has followed the harvest with migrant farm workers in California, spent time with meatpacking workers in Texas and Colorado, told the stories of marijuana growers and pornographers, and the victims of violent crime, gone on duty with the New York Police Department Bomb Squad, and visited prisons throughout the United States. His work, which defies easy categorization, sheds light on worlds that are too often hidden.
Schlosser’s first book, "Fast Food Nation" (2001), was pivotal in changing how Americans think about what they eat. Translated into more than twenty languages, it remained on the New York Times bestseller list for two years. His subsequent books, "Reefer Madness" (2003) and "Command and Control" (2013), the latter a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize in History, also reached the New York Times bestseller list. His work as a producer and documentary filmmaker includes credits in "Fast Food Nation" (2006), "There Will Be Blood" (2007), "Food, Inc." (2008), and "Food Chains" (2014). Additionally, he co-created and co-directed "the bomb" (2016), a multimedia installation that has been presented at international venues such as the Tribeca Film Festival, the Berlin Film Festival, and the Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies in Oslo.
Before his career in non-fiction, Schlosser was a playwright and worked for an independent film company. He has returned to those fields in recent years, with plays produced in London and significant involvement in film production. Schlosser served as an executive producer and co-wrote the feature film "Fast Food Nation," directed by Richard Linklater. He was also an executive producer for "There Will Be Blood," directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. His work extends beyond writing and film into impactful public speaking, with appearances at the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate, and the United Nations, discussing contemporary issues that influence daily life. Currently, Schlosser is working on a new book about the American prison system, continuing his exploration of critical social issues.
