Erika Ebbel Angle earned her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Boston University School of Medicine in 2012. Her research focused on the implementation of novel technologies in the discovery of biomarkers in Huntington Disease. She is a 2004 graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she majored in Chemistry and minored in music. At MIT she was involved in virology, analytical chemistry, and molecular biology research. She was awarded 3rd place at the 2000 MIT Biology Undergraduate Research Symposium and was invited to be one of the youngest poster presenters at the 48th American Society for Mass Spectrometry Conference in Long Beach, CA in June of 2000. In 2003 she was nominated as a recipient of the United States Achievement Academy National Sciences Award, and has been inducted into two honor societies at MIT.
While attending Crystal Springs Uplands Middle and High School, she became interested in isolating natural antiviral products from an herb. Her project led to her involvement with many multinational companies and institutions, and she was the recipient of a number of awards including: the 3rd place Grand Award at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in 1997, 1st place national winner of the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium, 1999 Intel Science Talent Search Finalist, three-time winner of the California State Science Fair and the 1999 winner of both the California State Student and Project of the Year awards.
In 2002 Erika founded what would become Science from Scientists. She believes that it is possible to spark interest in science by involving students in hands-on projects. After learning that national math and science test scores among middle and high school students have declined in recent years, Erika decided to start a program to encourage student involvement in science research, science projects and science fairs by providing support and help to those interested. In 2007, Erika was selected by L'Oreal Paris as a Woman of Worth for her work with Science from Scientists and was featured on Lifetime TV. She is the host of “The Dr. Erika Show” an educational science TV show for children.
Erika has served as a commissioner for the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Women and is currently serving on a sub-committee of the Massachusetts Governor's STEM Council. Erika was Miss Massachusetts 2004 in the Miss America Scholarship Program. She has appeared on Nova and TLC in shows such as "The Secret Lives of Scientists and Engineers." She is CEO of Counterpoint Health Solutions, a Biotechnology start-up company aimed at discovering unique early prediction, disease progression and therapeutic biomarkers in diseases such as Huntington Disease. She was the CEO of Science from Scientists from April 2002-May 2013.
