Erwin Chemerinsky

Erwin Chemerinsky's stances on issues such as gun control, Roe v. Wade, gay marriage, and affirmative action have placed him at the forefront of progressive legal discourse. Furthermore, he has played an active role in social justice initiatives as a founding member of the Progressive Jewish Alliance. Despite facing controversies related to freedom of speech and his appointment as Dean of the UCI School of Law, Chemerinsky's commitment to legal scholarship and education has remained steadfast, a testimony to his resilience and dedication to the field of law.

Chemerinsky's expertise lies in constitutional law and federal civil procedure, fields in which he has authored sixteen books, including a widely used constitutional law textbook, and more than two hundred law review articles. His legal acumen has led him to argue several cases before the United States Supreme Court. Chemerinsky has made significant contributions to legal scholarship as the Dean of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, a position he has held since 2017.

Chemerinsky's influence extends beyond academia. In 2016, he was named a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and was recognized as the most influential person in legal education in the United States by The National Jurist magazine in 2017. He is a regular columnist for the Sacramento Bee, ABA Journal, and Los Angeles Daily Journal, penning insightful commentary on various aspects of law. His involvement in legal and governmental initiatives is extensive, having served on a panel within the Los Angeles Police Department and participating in a commission examining irregularities in city contracting processes.

Chemerinsky is a Harvard Law School graduate with a joint appointment in political science.
