Fatema Basrai is the Executive Director of Leadership at SAISD, an education-focused leadership development program that teaches people how to advocate for public education. For her dedication to ensuring educational equity, Basrai was recognized as a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree in education.
Before working for SAISD, she joined Teach for America and taught as a third grade teacher for three years. Basrai was born in India and was raised in Oklahoma and Texas. She is a first-generation college student and after graduating high school, she moved to Rome, Italy to study International Affairs. She then transferred to The University of Texas at Austin, where she graduated with honors.
