Gabes Torres

Gabes Torres was born and raised in the Philippines. She is a researcher, artist, theologian, speaker, and psychotherapist in training, and her life’s work is to demonstrate how there’s nothing “post-” about post-colonialism.

While Torres’ passion involves exposing and dismantling systems and cultures of injustice and white supremacy, she also aims to create and sustain spaces of freedom, growth, and collective healing for marginalized communities, and to reclaim the fullness of who they are in light of their identity and innate human dignity.

Torres completed a Bachelor’s in Historical Theology at the Moody Bible Institute, Chicago because of her fascination in the birth and growth of the Western church and its irreversible influence on the Philippines’ history of Christianity and colonization. She is continuing with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology, focusing her clinical training on racial trauma and internalized oppression.

Torres currently works at and writes for The Allender Center. She also writes poetry and music, and occasionally performs her repertoire at live events. She independently produced 3 albums of original music, and her first one was launched when she was 17.

As part of her clinical training, Torres works as a psychotherapist intern at MEND Institute in Seattle, which has a social justice-oriented and intersectional feminist approach in therapy.
