Gary L. Smalls

Gary L. Smalls is a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer (NASM-CPT), United States Track and Field Level 1 Coach, 2021 TCS NYC Marathon Finisher, and a human-focused keynote speaker. With close to two decades of professional experience and nearly four decades of personal experience, Smalls also serves as a Business Enhancement Specialist. Born and raised in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, Smalls was an active child, influenced by prominent athletes like Bruce Lee, Michael Jordan, Deion Sanders, and Kobe Bryant.

His interest in fitness intensified during high school, where he took a weight training class with the Assistant Principal of Physical Education, Mr. Sanchez. In this class, Smalls learned the science, systems, methods, and anatomy of building his body, a knowledge that would shape his future career. Despite the lack of nutritional education and healthy food options in his neighborhood, he was determined to promote a healthy lifestyle.

Over the years, Smalls has practiced mixed martial arts (MMA), completed one TCS New York City Marathon, and two 5Ks. He also worked as a Livestrong Coach and youth mentor for almost a decade, helping Junior High School to Collegiate NYC inner-city students overcome mental and physical challenges. His experience extends to helping clients and organizations develop strong team dynamics, specializing in resilience and leadership.

Currently, Smalls serves on the Health and Wellness Committee for the founding chapter of the One Hundred Black Men Inc. and is a Personal Training Coach for the non-profit “A Second U Foundation” that services formerly incarcerated men and women. In addition to these roles, he is the Lead Facilitator and Coach for CUNY-Baruch College’s PitchPrep/ Blackstone LaunchPad Pitch Competition. His compassionate approach to fitness has successfully helped clients from various backgrounds and he is available as a keynote speaker for conferences as well as a personal trainer/nutrition coach.
