Gary Paul Nabhan is a Lebanese-American writer, international speaker, conservation leader, desert ecologist and agricultural activist, who addresses the connections between biodiversity and cultural diversity. He is also an Ecumenical Franciscan Brother involved in interfaith conflict resolution, the revival of desert spirituality traditions and recovery of threatened sacred plants. His writing on natural history, cultural history, seed saving, food and agriculture and Arab contributions to U.S. cultures have been honored with a MacArthur "Genius" award, a Lannan Literary fellowship, a James Beard Medal, and four lifetime achievement awards. Now retired as a teachers and research team leader at three universities, he divides his time between Arizona and Sonora Mexico, tending an orchard of 150 varieties, writing and lecturing worldwide.
