George W. Casey Jr.

General George W. Casey, Jr. has had a distinguished 41-year career in the US Army, culminating in his role as the 36th Chief of Staff of the US Army from 2007 to 2011. He graduated from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 1970 and has since become a respected authority on strategic leadership. During his tenure as Chief of Staff, he is credited with restoring balance to a war-weary Army and spearheading its transformation to maintain its relevance in the 21st century. Before this role, between July 2004 and February 2007, Casey commanded the Multi-National Force – Iraq, leading a coalition of over 30 countries through the challenging periods of insurgency and sectarian violence.

Currently, Casey serves as a Distinguished Senior Lecturer of Leadership at the SC Johnson College of Business, Cornell University, and as a Dean’s Fellow at the Darden School of Business, University of Virginia. His teachings are also part of his work at the Korbel School, University of Denver, where he holds the position of Rice Family Professor of Practice in International Relations. These roles allow him to lecture internationally on leadership, addressing leaders of national and multinational corporations, as well as academic audiences.

In addition to his academic roles, Casey serves on multiple boards that support servicemen and women, veterans, and their families, including the USO Board of Governors and the Board of Directors for organizations such as Georgetown University, Leonardo DRS, and Colt Holding Company, LLC. He has also made significant contributions to literature on leadership and military strategy, including his book "Strategic Reflections, Operation Iraqi Freedom, July 2004-2007" and several notable articles. His insights into leadership during uncertain times are reflected in his speeches, such as "Leading in a VUCA World" and "Our Long Struggle with Islamic Extremism—A Look Ahead for America," highlighting his deep understanding of complex global issues. General Casey holds a master's degree in international relations from the University of Denver and has been recognized for his broad international experience with operational assignments in Europe, the Balkans, and the Middle East.
