Gerry Dee

Gerry Dee began his comedy career in a very different fashion. The son of Scottish immigrant parents, Gerry was born in Scarborough, Ontario and grew up in Toronto. He currently splits his time between living in Los Angeles and Toronto.

He spent 10 years as a high school phys-ed teacher and hockey coach before making the switch to full time comedy in 2003. Before his comedy career took off, Dee had already made a name for himself as a physical educator and sports coach, enriching his humorous perspectives which later influenced his writing and performances.

In 1999, he won Toronto's Funniest New Comic competition. Dee's journey in the comedy landscape saw him winning the San Francisco International Comedy Competition in 2002, making him the first Canadian in 27 years to claim the title. This competition was a significant stepping stone, having previously launched the careers of notable comedians like Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, and Ellen Degeneres. Dee's success continued as he secured a third-place finish in NBC's "Last Comic Standing" in 2007 and received the 2008 Canadian Comedy Award for 'Best Male Comic in Canada'. He has appeared on major networks including CBS, HBO, NBC, and The Comedy Network, and his comedy specials have been featured on CTV and The Comedy Network.

Dee has attended numerous comedy festivals, including the US HBO Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and The Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, where he made his CBC Gala appearance in July 2004 and again in 2007. He has also performed internationally, including engagements in Scotland and South Africa. Dee’s literary contributions include the book "Teaching: It's Harder Than It Looks," where he shares humorous anecdotes from his teaching days, reflecting his ability to connect with audiences on various levels.

In addition to his comedy career, Gerry Dee is an accomplished athlete. He is a competitive amateur golfer with a 2 handicap, a former provincially ranked tennis player, and a former university hockey player at St. Francis Xavier University. Dee's multifaceted talents and clean, original comedic material make his acts suitable for all ages, resonating with a wide audience base.
