Grace Gealey Byers

Caymanian actress Grace (Gealey) Byers moved to America to attend the University of South Florida in Tampa, where she received a B.A. in Theater Arts. During her time at USF, acting afforded her the opportunity to communicate viscerally; a desire that came from being a child of deaf adults (CODA). Upon graduating from college, Byers was accepted into the University of California Irvine's graduate program and obtained her M.F.A in Acting. A successful showcase took her from Los Angeles to New York City, where she performed professionally in several theater productions, short films, and national commercials before her move to Chicago. "Empire" marked Byers' network television debut as 'Anika Calhoun.'

Byers expanded her television career with roles in Marvel’s "The Gifted," Irv Gotti’s "Tales" on BET, and the indie thriller "Bent." She also appeared in popular series such as "Black-ish," "Doom Patrol," and "Orange is the New Black." Beyond acting, Byers is an accomplished children's book author, with notable works including the New York Times Best-Selling "I Am Enough," which received the 2018 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Picture Book, and "I Believe I Can," released in Winter 2020. Both books aim to empower young children against bullying and inspire self-acceptance and love.

In addition to her artistic accomplishments, Byers is active in philanthropy. She is closely involved with the non-profit anti-bullying organization "Saving Our Daughters." Her efforts in advocating for women's rights and youth volunteer work have been recognized, earning her the "Inspire A Difference" award in 2015 by Glamour & Investigation Discovery. Residing in Los Angeles with her husband, actor Trai Byers, and their malti-poo, Baron Byers, she continues to be a sought-after inspirational speaker, particularly known for her powerful anti-bullying message and teaching the importance of self-acceptance.
