Gregg F. Martin

Major General Gregg F. Martin served on active duty for 36 years, until May 2015 in the US Army. His tenure in the army includes key positions such as the Special Assistant to the Chief of Engineers and second in command for the 3rd Army/US Army Central in the Central Command Area of Responsibility. He also led the National Defense University from July 2012 to July 2014, following his role as the Commandant of the U.S. Army War College from July 2010 to July 2012. His experience in managing a complex enterprise comes from heading four major schools at the Maneuver Support Center of Excellence in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.

Martin is academically equipped with a Ph.D. and two master's degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, two master's in national security strategy from both the Army and Naval war colleges and a bachelor's degree from West Point. He commanded the 130th Engineer Brigade during the first year of the Iraq War in 2003-04, demonstrating his leadership skills in high-pressure situations. His service has been recognized with accolades such as the Distinguished Service Medal (twice), the Bronze Star Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.

After his career in the military, Martin turned his focus to mental health advocacy. As a survivor of bipolar disorder, he uses his personal experiences to raise awareness of mental health challenges. He has penned a book, "Bipolar General: My Forever War with Mental Illness," and actively contributes to various articles and interviews on the subject. His advocacy work has been featured at the Association of the United States Army event and in Military Times. Martin's public speaking engagements and media presence further underline his dedication to this cause.

Martin is married and has three sons, two of whom are Army combat veterans. They reside in Cocoa Beach, FL, where he continues his writing, speaking, and advocacy work, sharing his story to help others and combat mental health stigma.
