Grimes

Grimes, born Claire Boucher, is a Canadian musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Known for her unique fusion of dream pop, R&B, electronic, and hip-hop influences, she has become one of the most distinctive artists of recent years. Her music, which often incorporates futuristic elements into its soundscapes, has made her widely popular across diverse audiences. Her signature sound is marked by ethereal sonics and her unmistakable soprano vocals. Albums like 2012's "Visions" and 2015's "Art Angels," which integrated elements of country and metal, further broadened her appeal.

Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Grimes moved to Montreal in 2006 to study neuroscience at McGill University. She started her music career a year later under the name Grimes, drawing inspiration from the layered structures of Panda Bear's "Person Pitch" for her songwriting approach. Grimes' early work, released under Arbutus Records, included 2010's "Halfaxa" and "Geidi Primes," which drew inspiration from Frank Herbert's "Dune" series.

Grimes' third studio album, "Visions," released under 4AD in 2012, garnered widespread critical acclaim. Grimes, who signed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation management company in 2013, continued her successful journey with releasing the single "Go" in 2014. As she continued to work on her fourth album, she collaborated with Bleachers in 2015 on the song "Entropy" for the HBO TV series "Girls" and released another single, "REALiTi."

Her fourth studio album, "Art Angels," arrived in 2015 and topped Billboard's Alternative Album Chart while reaching number two on the Billboard Top Independent Album Chart. The album included collaborations with Janelle Monáe and Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes. Grimes continued her creative partnerships in 2016, working with singer/songwriter HANA on The Ac!d Reign Chronicles, a series of self-produced videos for their songs filmed during their European tour.

Grimes' fifth studio album, "Miss Anthropocene," released in 2020, explored themes of climate change and human extinction. The album announcement was accompanied by the release of several singles, including the i_o collaboration "Violence" and "4ÆM" featured in the video game Cyberpunk 2077. In the game, Grimes voiced the character Lizzy Wizzy, a singer in the game's world. The album title, "Miss Anthropocene," reflects her tendency to incorporate unconventional subject matter into her music.

In 2021, Grimes signed with Columbia Records, launching a new phase in her career. She continued her venture into the world of television by serving as a judge on the TV show "Alter Ego." She has also appeared on shows like "Saturday Night Live" and music videos like Doja Cat's "Need to Know." Grimes is known for her frequent collaborations with other artists, her latest being with The Weeknd on a song released in 2022. Her sixth studio album, titled "Book 1," has been announced and is eagerly anticipated by fans.
