Guido Van Rossum Biography
Guido van Rossum is a Dutch programmer known for being the author of Python programming language, for which he was the "benevolent dictator for life" (BDFL) until he stepped down from the position in July 2018.
Van Rossum's goals when writing Python were to create an easy, intuitive coding language that was open-source and suitable for everyday tasks. The huge popularity of Python today is proof of van Rossum's success in achieving his goals for the language.
Van Rossum was born and raised in the Netherlands, where he received a master's degree in mathematics and computer science from the University of Amsterdam in 1982.
In 2013, van Rossum started working at the cloud file storage company Dropbox. In October 2019, Van Rossum left Dropbox and officially retired.
In 2018, he was made a Fellow of the Computer History Museum, and in 2006, he was recognized as a Distinguished Engineer by the Association for Computing Machinery.
Van Rossum regularly delivers keynotes on Python and programming around the world.
