Harold Ellis Biography
Former NBA and Morehouse College guard Harold Ellis begins his fifth season as a scout for the Hawks, and second as the club’s minor league coordinator. Ellis focuses on minor-league and college scouting. He previously was an assistant coach in 2001-02 on the inaugural staff of the National Basketball Association Development League's Roanoke Dazzle.
A former pro player who has played in four leagues (the NBA, Continental Basketball Association, the U.S. Basketball League and Greece), Ellis is a 1992 graduate of Morehouse who spent three seasons in the NBA with the Los Angeles Clippers (1993-94 and '94-95), where he was a teammate of Hawks legend and Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins, and Denver Nuggets (1997-98). The 6-5 guard-forward averaged 5.8 points in his NBA career.
An outstanding NCAA Division II player who led the Maroon Tigers in scoring in each of his four seasons (1988-92), Ellis became only the fifth player from a historically black college or university (HBCU) to have his uniform number (#30) retired. Morehouse had a 90-30 record in Ellis' four years there.
Ellis, the son of educators, has a master's degree in sports management and administration from the U.S. Sports Academy in Daphne, Alabama. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in sports psychology at San Diego University for Integrative Studies.
