Heather Lane Biography
Heather Lane is Senior Architect of the Data Science team and Data subdivision of Platform and Data Services at athenahealth, where she has technical oversight of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and natural language processing activities. In this role, Lane has overseen development of more than a dozen machine learning projects that collectively provide tens of millions of dollars of annual cost savings to athenahealth and its customers.
Prior to athenahealth, Lane spent five years at Google, working on Knowledge Graph, Google Books, Project Sunroof, and Ads Latency. She came to Google from academia, where she was a professor of computer science at the University of New Mexico, researching machine learning with applications to biosciences and neuroscience. She spent her postdoc in the CSAIL lab at MIT studying reinforcement learning and decision theory.
Lane received her Ph.D. from Purdue University.
