Helen Wong

Helen Wong was appointed Group Chief Executive Officer of OCBC in April 2021 after joining the bank as Deputy President and Head of Global Wholesale Banking in February 2020. In her role, she oversees multiple leadership roles, including Chairman of OCBC China, Board Commissioner of OCBC Indonesia, and Director of Bank of Singapore, Great Eastern Holdings, OCBC Malaysia, and OCBC Hong Kong. She was later appointed as an Executive Director in February 2023. Her banking career spans over four decades. She began at OCBC, where she started as a management trainee, and later made history by becoming the first China Desk Manager in Hong Kong.

Before rejoining OCBC, Wong spent 27 years at HSBC, last serving as Chief Executive for Greater China. Her tenure at HSBC was marked by a series of promotions, serving as the President and CEO of HSBC China from 2010, and was later elevated to Group General Manager in 2011. Additionally, she held non-executive directorships at Baoshan Iron & Steel from 2012 to 2015 and Bank of Communications from 2016 to 2019, further enhancing her leadership credentials and industry knowledge.

Wong maintains an active role in the broader financial sector as the Chairman of the Association of Banks in Singapore and a council member of the Institute of Banking and Finance Singapore. Her influence extends to several panels and councils under the Monetary Authority of Singapore, including the Financial Centre Advisory Panel, Payments Council, and Financial Sector Tripartite Committee. She also serves on the board of Enterprise Singapore and the Institute of International Finance, demonstrating her commitment to promoting the growth and development of the banking and finance industry both locally and internationally.
