Ilya Sutskever

Ilya Sutskever is an Israeli-Canadian computer scientist, serial entrepreneur and co-founder of Safe Superintelligence with Daniel Gross and Daniel Levy. Prior to Safe Superintelligence, he was the co-founder and chief scientist of OpenAI, a pioneering organization in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). Sutskever also co-invented AlexNet, a convolutional neural network, which he developed alongside Alex Krizhevsky and Geoffrey Hinton. Sutskever's work has been recognized on numerous occasions; he was named in MIT Technology Review's 35 Innovators Under 35 in 2015, and in 2022, he became a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS). His contributions to the AI field have seen him invited as a keynote speaker at notable events such as Nvidia Ntech 2018 and the AI Frontiers Conference in the same year.

Sutskever has made significant strides in the academic realm, having published several impactful papers. These include "Dropout: A Simple Way to Prevent Neural Networks from Overfitting" and "Sequence to sequence learning with neural networks", both published in 2014 in the Journal of Machine Learning Research and the Proceedings of the 27th International Conference on Neural Information Processing Systems, respectively. His work in "ImageNet classification with deep convolutional neural networks" was featured in Communications of the ACM in 2017. Furthermore, he has been involved in the development of TensorFlow, an open-source machine learning framework.

Sutskever's insights have been sought after in interviews and podcasts, such as "Voices in AI" and MIT Technology Review. Sutskever also delivered a TED Talk titled "The exciting, perilous journey toward AGI", where he explored the transformative potential of artificial general intelligence (AGI) and its potential to surpass human intelligence.
