Itamar Rabinovich

Ambassador Itamar Rabinovich is Israel's former Ambassador to the United States and former Chief Negotiator with Syria in the mid 1990s. He is the incumbent of the Ettinger Chair of Contemporary Middle Eastern History at Tel Aviv University and professor emeritus of Middle Eastern history at the same institution. Rabinovich has been a member of the Tel Aviv University faculty since 1971 and has held various roles within the university including Chairman of the Department of Middle Eastern Studies, Director of the Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies, Dean of Humanities, and Rector. He recently completed an eight-year term as the president of Tel Aviv University and has progressed through the academic ranks to full Professor of Middle Eastern History.

Rabinovich is the author of numerous books on the Modern History and Politics of the Middle East, including "The Brink of Peace", "Waging Peace" (Princeton University Press), and "The View from Damascus: State, Political Community and Foreign Relations in Twentieth-Century Syria" (Valentine Mitchell, 2008). His academic and literary contributions have established him as a respected figure in the field of Middle Eastern studies.

Currently, Rabinovich serves as the chairman of the board of the Dan David Foundation and vice chairman of the board of the Institute for National Security Studies. He is also the chairman of the advisory board of the Wexner-Israel Program. Furthermore, his influence extends internationally as a member of the Trilateral Commission, the International Advisory Board of the Brookings Institution, and the American Philosophical Society. Rabinovich is also a distinguished global professor at New York University and holds membership in the U.S. Academy of Arts and Sciences. His contributions to international diplomacy and academia have been recognized with several honors, including the Honorary Grand Golden Cross of the Austrian Republic.
