Popularly known as the Iron Cowboy, Lawrence acquired this moniker from the public after deciding to wear a cowboy hat during the marathon segment of his Ironman races, a simple way for his children to spot him amidst the crowd. Not only has Lawrence held two Guinness World Records, but he also set a new record in 2021 by completing 100 consecutive Ironman-distance triathlons in as many days during the “Conquer 100” event. He continued this feat, finishing one more for a total of 101 in 101 consecutive days, a record that stood until it was topped in 2023 by Welsh athlete Sean Conway. Furthermore, Lawrence holds the current record for the highest number of half-Ironman distance triathlons in one year, having completed 22 in 2011.
