Jamie Mitchell

No one in the world has achieved what Jamie Mitchell has achieved. He has risen to dominate three water sports: prone paddling, stand-up paddling, and big wave surfing, on a global stage, all by age 46. The former Gold Coast lifeguard took the world by storm with his unparalleled ability on the water. The 10-time Molokai winner, award-winning big wave surfer, world champion paddle boarder, husband, father, businessman, and co-founder of Heavy Water Surf is no stranger to overcoming obstacles.

Suffering from chronic childhood asthma, Mitchell has survived a broken back and broken sternum, overcome depression, and stared death in the face more times than he would like to remember. He is a student and master of resilience, evolution, and sheer determination.

Mitchell created the Seven Crossing project in 2019, a documentary series capturing his 170 miles (260 km) paddle across the Channel Islands just off the coast of Southern California to showcase the USC Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies work and highlight the urgent need for a more sustainable future for our oceans.
