Jamila Norman

Jamila Norman, a first-generation American born in New York to Caribbean parents, has established herself as a frontrunner in the realm of urban farming and sustainable agriculture. Her journey in this field began after obtaining a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Georgia. Her passion for sustainable living led her to co-found Patchwork City Farms, a 1.2-acre urban farm in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2010. The farm, which produces organic fruits, vegetables, and herbs for local Atlanta farmer's markets and restaurants, has been highlighted in Modern Farmer Magazine, SeedStock.com, The Library of Congress and Southern Foodways Alliance oral history project, and Farm Star Living.

In addition to her endeavors with Patchwork City Farms, Norman has been at the forefront of several initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable farming and healthy living. One such initiative is EAT MOVE BeWELL, a program she co-founded that focuses on providing fresh foods to communities of color and in urban landscapes. She is also a member of the board of Georgia Organics, a non-profit organization, and is a part of the Black-led conservation group called West Atlanta Watershed Alliance. Her dedication to her work led her to serve as the 2014 US delegate at Slow Food's Terra Madre Salone del Gusto in Turin, Italy.

Apart from these roles, Norman is also a familiar face on television, hosting "Homegrown" on Chip and Joanna Gaines' Magnolia Network. The show sees her helping families transform their outdoor spaces into backyard farms. Her work and contributions to the field of urban farming and sustainable living have earned her a spot on the Cherry Bombe 100 list of inspirational women in the culinary world. Norman has been featured in Time, The New York Times, a guest on CNN, "The Drew Barrymore Show," and "Today."
