Jane Seymour Biography

A multiple award-winning actress and recipient of the Officer of the British Empire bestowed upon her by Queen Elizabeth II, Jane Seymour has proven her talents in virtually all media, the Broadway stage, motion pictures and television. An iconic star of the beloved TV series “Dr. Quinn: Medicine Woman,” she became a role model to young women and girls throughout the world with her inspiring rendition of a woman who can courageously dare, achieve and improve anything a man can do, investing it with that “woman’s touch” of caring humanity.

Seymour made her screen debut as an uncredited extra in the 1969 musical comedy "Oh! What a Lovely War." She would go on to leading roles in television and film and was cast as the Bond girl in 1973's "Live and Let Die." Critical acclaim followed for her role in "Captains and the Kings," for which she received a nomination for the 1976 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series. She won her first Golden Globe in 1982 for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for "East of Eden." Seymour earned additional Golden Globe nominations for "The Woman He Loved" and "War and Remembrance," also receiving a Primetime Emmy nomination for the latter. She won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Special for "Onassis: The Richest Man in the World." For "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman," she earned two Primetime Emmy nominations, four Golden Globe nominations (winning one), and two Screen Actors Guild nominations over the course of the show's run.

Seymour's other tv and film roles include "Somewhere in Time," "The Scarlet Pimpernel," "La Révolution Française," "Wedding Crashers," "Love, Wedding, Marriage," "Little Italy," "The War with Grandpa," "Friendsgiving" and "Harry Wild," among others.

In addition to her acting career, Seymour is the founder of the Open Hearts Foundation as well as an author, having cowritten several children's books and self-help books. Under the Jane Seymour Designs label, she has created jewelry, scarves, furniture, rugs, handbags, paintings and sculptures.
