Jasmine Simpkins is an LA-based TV host and reporter. Currently, she is a correspondent for the KTLA lifestyle sho "L.A. Unscripted" and is also a reporter for KTLA Weekend AM News. A native of Los Angeles, Simpkins has always had a passion for the arts and entertainment and began her journey as a journalist at UCLA, writing for the Daily Bruin.
After college, her enthusiasm for reporting landed her a managing editor position with L.A. FOCUS newspaper. Her years working red carpets and writing her column "Inside Hollywood with Jasmine Simpkins" would later garner the attention of the Starz network, who was looking for an LA-based reporter and producer to host their entertainment interstitial "In The Cut."
At Starz, she also produced original programming, including the documentary "11-04-08: The Day of Change," which chronicled the day President Barack Obama was elected the first African American President of the United States. Simpkins has worked for networks like BET and sites like AOL; she reported and produced for the Jonas Brothers' entertainment site Cambio. She has garnered a reputation for having amazing industry contacts and is trusted for her thought-provoking interviews and ability to break stories.
From 2012 to 2016, she was the host and producer for TV One's daily entertainment news segments and a regular contributor on "News One Now" with Roland Martin. During that time, she also served as the senior producer and reporter for Kevin Frazier's entertainment news site, HipHollywood.
She joined the Nexstar team in 2019 as an MMJ and fill-in anchor for the daily digital show 5LIVE. That same year, WeTV and the family of late NWA frontman Eric "Eazy-E" Wright hand-picked her to be the investigative journalist for their docu-series "The Mysterious Death of Eazy-E."
Simpkins can be seen dishing on hot topics and reviewing films on HLN, NBC, and FOX on the daytime talk show "Sherri" hosted by Sherri Shepherd. In addition to working as a reporter and TV Host, she is also an active member of the African American Film Critics Association.
Her stellar hosting skills and passion for film and pop culture have also led to numerous moderation gigs for companies like Lexus, Netflix, MGM, and Sony Pictures, just to name a few. In 2024, Simpkins moderated a panel on the state of homelessness in America hosted by the LA Mission with Congresswoman Maxine Waters during SWSW.
