Jason Hwang

Jason Hwang, M.D., M.B.A., is an internal medicine physician who co-authored "The Innovator's Prescription: A Disruptive Solution for Health Care" alongside Professor Clayton M. Christensen of Harvard Business School and the late Jerome H. Grossman of Harvard Kennedy School of Government. This influential book was named the American College of Healthcare Executives 2010 Book of the Year and received the 2011 Health Service Journal Circle Prize for Inspiring Innovation.

Dr. Hwang is a proponent of disruptive innovation as a means to overhaul the healthcare system, placing a strong emphasis on technology's role in this transformation. From his position as the co-founder and chief medical officer of PolkaDoc, a California-based telehealth startup, he has been instrumental in advocating for affordable primary care solutions accessible via smartphones. His career also includes significant time as the executive director at Innosight Institute, which has since been renamed the Clayton Christensen Institute for Disruptive Innovation. Here, he focused on addressing global social challenges through innovative solutions.

In addition to his leadership roles, Dr. Hwang was the co-founder and chief medical officer of Icebreaker Health, also known as Lemonaid Health, a pioneering telemedicine company in San Francisco. His academic contributions include roles as chief resident and clinical instructor at the University of California, Irvine, where he garnered several accolades for his clinical excellence. Dr. Hwang's practical experience extends to his time as a clinician with the Southern California Kaiser Permanente Medical Group and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Long Beach, California. He holds a B.S. and M.D. from the University of Michigan, complemented by an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hwang has delivered keynote speeches at various conferences, discussing the ongoing transformation in healthcare through innovation and digital health technologies. His vision for the future encompasses the use of automated, software-based frameworks to standardize care processes, enhancing the scalability and efficiency of telemedicine systems.
