Jason Lezak

Jason Lezak grew up in Irvine, California, where he engaged in a variety of sports from a young age, including basketball, water polo, and swimming, which he began at the age of five. His athletic prowess would later shine in the sport of swimming, where he carved a remarkable career.

Lezak first emerged in the swimming scene in 1998 when he won his first national title in the 100m freestyle at the U.S. National Championships. This marked the start of a professional career that would span nearly fifteen years, covering four Olympic Games and culminating in eight Olympic medals. At the 2000 Olympic Games, he won a gold and silver medal, and by 2002, he was recognized as the world's top swimming sprinter. In the 2004 Olympic Games, Lezak secured a bronze medal in the 4x100m freestyle relay and a gold medal in the 4x100m medley relay, which set a new world record.

In 2008, at the age of 32, Lezak qualified for the Beijing Olympic Games in multiple events - the 100m freestyle, the 4x100m freestyle relay, and the 4x100m medley relay. Serving as the tri-captain of the U.S. swim team, he played a crucial role in the 4x100m freestyle relay, securing a victory for the U.S. team. His 46.06 split in the relay is considered the fastest 100m relay split ever, a record that still stands. Furthermore, his performance in the last leg of the 4x100m Men's medley relay clinched the gold for the U.S., helping teammate Michael Phelps secure his record-setting 8th gold medal. Lezak also represented the United States in the 2012 Olympic Games, contributing to a silver medal win in the 4x100m Freestyle relay.

In addition to his Olympic achievements, Lezak boasts a commendable record in short-course competitions, with five world championships to his name. He also has seven U.S. Championships under his belt, along with successes in the Pan Pacific Championships and Summer Universiades. His personal bests in long-course swimming are 21.90 in the 50m freestyle and 47.58 in the 100m freestyle, the latter being a former American record. Lezak was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2003 and the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. He now serves as the general manager of the Cali Condors, a member of the International Swimming League.
