Jeanette A. Nyden

Jeanette Nyden brings more than a decade of experience as an attorney, mediator, and negotiation specialist. As founder and president of J. Nyden & Co., Nyden has utilized these skills to help small and mid-sized companies achieve successful outcomes in negotiations. J. Nyden & Co. founded in Seattle in 2003, provides advance negotiation planning and strategy services in addition to training programs and seminars. Jeanette also represents small businesses in complex negotiations.

Nyden brings the strong negotiation skills that she learned as a litigation, along with the collaborative and problem solving skills she learned as a mediator, to each and every client engagement.

Prior to founding J. Nyden and Co., Nyden handled litigation for a law firm specializing in bankruptcy law. This experience developed Jeanette’s understanding of the role of instinct to identify and implement strategies when dealing with hidden motives that can often hinder the negotiation process. Nyden’s expertise in negotiation was built on her early experiences serving as Assistant Public Defender in Chicago, Illinois, the largest criminal justice system in the United States. Jeanette gained a breadth of experience as she defended and negotiated prison terms for men and women eligible for the death penalty. She gained vital insight on how to move from aggressive strategies to actively understanding the needs of the other party, which creates winning solutions for both sides.

Nyden earned her Juris Doctorate from the Southern Illinois University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts from Southern Illinois University. Jeanette is a certified mediator and donates her time to mediating disputes for the Pierce County Center for Dispute Resolution, a non-profit organization. Nyden and her husband have lived in Seattle since 2002.

Nyden is an adjunct professor at Pacific Lutheran University MBA Program. She teaches a negotiation course, showing future business leaders how to become master negotiators.
