Jerry Manuel

Jerry Manuel, nicknamed "The Sage," is a former Major League Baseball manager. He previously managed the Chicago White Sox from 1998 to 2003 and the New York Mets from the middle of 2008 to 2010. Currently, Manuel works as an analyst for MLB Network.

After leaving Major League Baseball in 2010, Manuel went back to his home in the Sacramento, California, area and started the Jerry Manuel Foundation with the mission of targeting urban youth, educating them with Charter School standards, and training them in the fundamentals of baseball.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Manuel played sparingly in the major leagues for the Detroit Tigers, the San Diego Padres, and the Montreal Expos.

An outstanding student-athlete in high school, Manuel carried fond memories of his father Lorenzo playing Negro League pickup games and pitching with the greats.

Following his father’s athletic footsteps at eighteen with 220 full scholarship offers to play football, basketball or baseball across the nation, Manuel was the #1 pick of the Detroit Tigers and signed as a professional.

He has earned top honors over his MLB career. He is married to his high school sweetheart Renette, wife of 39 years. Together he and Renette have four children, one of whom, Jerry Lorenzo, is the founder of the popular Fear of God streetwear label.
