Jigar Shah is the Former Director for the Loan Programs Office at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), where he led and directed the organization's considerable loan authority within manufacturing, innovative project finance, and tribal energy. With more than 25 years of experience in clean energy, he is an expert in project finance, clean technology, and entrepreneurship, as well as a visionary leader and innovator in the field of sustainable infrastructure. Shah was featured in TIME's list of the "100 Most Influential People" in 2024.
Prior to joining the DOE, Shah co-founded and served as the President of Generate Capital, where he focused on helping entrepreneurs accelerate decarbonization solutions through the use of low-cost infrastructure-as-a service financing. He also founded SunEdison, the inventor of the modern solar-as-a-service industry, and served as the founding CEO of the Carbon War Room, a global non-profit founded by Sir Richard Branson to help entrepreneurs address climate change. Shah is also the author of "Creating Climate Wealth: Unlocking the Impact Economy," a book that outlines his mission to scale the transition to a global clean energy economy.
Originally from Illinois, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois-UC and an MBA from the University of Maryland College Park.
