Joseph "Joe" Biden, Jr. served as the 46th President of the United States from January 20, 2021, to January 20, 2025. Prior to his presidency, Biden was the 47th Vice President of the United States under the administration of President Barack Obama.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Biden lived there for ten years before moving to Delaware. He became an attorney in 1969 and was elected to a county council in 1970. The keynotes by Biden reflect his decades of experience as a politician and leader in the United States of America. Biden's career as a politician began at the early age of 29 when he became one of the youngest people elected to the Senate.
Biden was first elected to the Senate in 1972, and at the time, was the sixth-youngest senator in U.S. history. He went on to be re-elected to the Senate six times and was the fourth most senior senator at the time of his resignation to take on the vice presidency. Biden served as a U.S. Senator from Delaware from January 3, 1973, to January 15, 2009, making him the 14th-longest serving Senator in history. During his tenure in the Senate, he chaired the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during 2001-2003 and 2007-2009 and the Senate Judiciary Committee from 1987 to 1995.
Biden's commitment to education is evident both from his own degrees, including an undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware and a Law degree from Syracuse Law School, and his actions as a lawmaker. He has worked tirelessly to improve the lives of Americans at both the local and domestic level. In 2008, he was elected to be the 47th Vice President under President Barack Obama, representing the Democrats. President Obama and Biden won the re-election in 2012, and he served for four more years as Vice President.
As Vice President, Biden convened sessions of the President’s Cabinet, lead interagency efforts, and worked with Congress in his fight to raise the living standards of middle-class Americans, reduce gun violence, and address violence against women. Biden has also been named one of TIME 100's Most Influential People of 2020.
After leaving the White House and returning to Delaware, the Bidens continued their efforts to expand opportunity for every American with the creation of the Biden Foundation, the Biden Cancer Initiative, the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement, and the Biden Institute at the University of Delaware.
