John Boudreau

Professor and Research Director at the University of Southern California's Marshall School of Business and Center for Effective Organizations, John Boudreau is recognized globally for his research on the connection between superior human capital, talent, and sustainable competitive advantage. Boudreau consults and conducts executive development with a diverse range of organizations worldwide, aiming to maximize employee effectiveness by connecting human capital strategies to business outcomes. His engagement includes companies, government agencies, and non-profits across various stages, from startups to global corporations.

Boudreau's recent publications include "Beyond HR: The New Science of Human Capital," co-authored with Peter M. Ramstad (Harvard Business School Publishing, 2007), and "Investing in People," now in its second edition, co-authored with Wayne F. Cascio (Pearson, 2008). He has also authored "Retooling HR: Using Proven Business Tools to Make Better Decisions about Talent" (Harvard Business Publishing, 2010), and "Lead the Work: Navigating New Organizational Forms" with Ravin Jesuthasan and David Creelman (Wiley, 2015), which discusses the shift towards non-traditional work arrangements and the implications for leadership and organizational management.

Boudreau has published more than 50 books and numerous articles. His scholarly research, focusing on the future of the global HR profession, HR measurement and analytics, and decision-based HR, is published in prestigious journals such as Management Science, Academy of Management Executive, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Personnel Psychology. Furthermore, Boudreau has been instrumental in foundational HR initiatives, such as founding the Central Europe Human Resource Education Initiative and serving as the first Visiting Director of Sun Microsystems’ unique Research and Development Laboratory for Human Capital.
