John Hinderaker

John Hinderaker was born in September 1950 and is a conservative American lawyer with a nationwide litigation practice. He is also a co-founder and blogger at "Power Line," and a fellow at the Claremont Institute. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1971 and received his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Harvard Law School in 1974. "Power Line," which he started with Scott Johnson in 2002, was named Blog of the Year by Time Magazine in 2004 and is known for its significant role in exposing the fake documents in a "60 Minutes" program about President Bush's National Guard service. The blog receives over 100,000 hits per day and has been influential in promoting outsiders as candidates for Dartmouth alumni trustees, such as T.J. Rodgers, founder and CEO of Cypress Semiconductor.

A consistent theme in Hinderaker's blogging is the perceived incompetence and bias of major US news outlets, which he argues tend to slant news to favor the political left. His critiques extend to various national issues and media reporting inaccuracies.

Hinderaker was pivotal in challenging the authenticity of the Bush National Guard documents featured in a "60 Minutes" report, leading to CBS's eventual retraction and apology. The network clarified that "the Killian documents were produced on a computer in Times New Roman typestyle," proving they were not authentic as they purported to be from the early 1970s. Additionally, Hinderaker notably engaged in the discourse surrounding the Schiavo "talking points memo," initially speculating it as a Democratic Party tactic. When it was revealed to be authored by a Republican aide, Brian Darling, he acknowledged the fact, yet continued his critique of mainstream media’s framing of the memo.
