Jon Hamm got his start in acting in St. Louis. His move to Hollywood saw him gradually establish his career with guest appearances on television before achieving TV stardom. Hamm's career kicked off in the late 1990s, marking his big screen debut in director-star Clint Eastwood's film, Space Cowboys. His star-making role, however, was as the 1960s ad executive Don Draper in the critically acclaimed cable series, “Mad Men.”
After relocating to L.A. in the 1990s, Hamm landed a semi-regular role in 2000 as romantic firefighter Burt Ridley on “Providence.” This opened doors to a two-season stint as Police Inspector Nate Basso on “The Division.” Hamm then continued to make appearances on hit series such as “CSI: Miami,” “Related," “Numb3rs” and “The Sarah Silverman Program.” He then secured a semi-regular role on the Emmy-nominated espionage drama, “The Unit.” In 2007, Hamm was chosen by Matthew Weiner, a former writer-producer for “The Sopranos,” to star in his new cable series “Mad Men.” Hamm's portrayal of Don Draper was so compelling that he won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Series in early 2008 and, later that year, received an Emmy nod for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. He also earned an Emmy nomination for his performance as Liz Lemon’s love interest on “30 Rock.”
On the big screen, Hamm had roles in films such as We Were Soldiers and Kissing Jessica Stein, in which he acted alongside his real-life longtime girlfriend, Jennifer Westfeldt. His role as NASA official Dr. Michael Granier in the blockbuster remake of the 1951 sci-fi movie, The Day the Earth Stood Still was another highlight of his film career. He also had a supporting role in the 2011 hit comedy Bridesmaids and a lead role in the sports movie The Million Dollar Arm in 2014. Hamm has also appeared in Bad Times at the El Royale, Baby Driver, Aardvark, Nostalgia, Beirut, and Top Gun: Maverick, and voiced a character in the animated film Minions.
On television, Hamm appeared in series like "A Young Doctor's Notebook," "Black Mirror," "Good Omens," and "Legion," and had a recurring role in "Fargo." He was nominated for an Emmy for his role in "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt." Hamm also contributed his voice to various commercials for brands such as Mercedes-Benz, American Airlines, H&R Block, SkipTheDishes, and Progressive Insurance. Hamm has also received recognition for his financial knowledge and expertise, and he has been involved in Democratic politics in both California and New York.
