Josh Pastner Biography
At age 37, Josh Pastner is one of the youngest NCAA Division I coaches in the game, but don’t let his age fool you, he’s also one of the best. Pastner was a point guard on the Arizona Wildcats 1997 NCAA National Championship team, and earned his bachelors and masters degrees while still playing at Arizona. During his final season in 2000 he began his doctoral degree and then became a graduate assistant at Arizona to finish up his Ph.D. In 2002 he was hired on as a full-time assistant at Arizona and served in that position until being hired as an assistant at the University of Memphis in 2008. After just two seasons at Memphis as an assistant he was hired as the Tigers new head coach and signed a contract worth $4.4 million a year. During his first year he had one of the top ranked recruiting classes in the nation and won 24 games. Since that time he has led the Tigers to two Conference USA Championships and four consecutive NCAA Tournaments, reaching the third round in 2014. As one of the top young coaches in the country, he is widely respected for his tireless recruiting efforts and work ethic both on and off the court to prepare his team’s for victory on a national stage.
